When the subway offers more than just a ride
THE subway has really saved me a lot of time after it appeared in my life. Although seats are not always accessible in the subway, it's a heap better than a traffic jam. The big change for me is that I've already become a book-lover in the subway.
I always feel a little ashamed when talking about my reasons for reading on the subway - especially about a free magazine called "The Subway Wind." It's a modern magazine, covering aspects of food, clothing and hairdressing. It doesn't tax your brain but relaxes your nerves. This simple reading style has rapidly become popular among young passengers. I once read a story on the Internet about a girl who had got on a train. When she suddenly realized that there were free magazines on the platform, she threw safety to the wind, ran out and rushed back with a magazine in hand, unbelievably quickly.
The subway takes less time than buses. However, more people like to read on subways. For me, the bus is not so stable - one sudden brake can ruin your interest on books. The subway on the other hand runs very peacefully. As well, the slight up and down movement harmonizes perfectly with the reading environment. Crowded and noisy surroundings do not affect my reading.
Gradually, those free magazines did not satisfy me any longer. I began to bring my own books. Although I often read books during my student days, work has largely prevented me from reading. But now, the subway changes me again. The environment of the subway is very suitable for us busy office workers to read books. Now, I'm used to reading a few chapters of a novel every day. As the days pass, I've already collected a lot of novels in my memory.
