Sun, sand and a lot of fun
EVERYBODY hit the beach as summer is here and it's not gonna cool down anytime soon.
In Shanghai, hitting the beach usually means the Jinshan City Beach.
The beach's management committee has prepared some new attractions and added a few touches to make the sandy stretch more fun this summer.
A large kids zone will be launched this summer. New rides such as a pirate ship and giant swings will also open. Of course, urban day-trippers will still be able to hire a yacht or motor boat and go fishing.
"We have drawn some experience from the previous three years, and this summer we hope to take our service to a new level," says Jiang Siguan, deputy director of the Jinshan Coastline Development and Management Committee.
Another 10,000 tons of sand has been added, as have wooden beach chairs to make things more comfortable.
This summer electronic ticket checks will be adopted at the entrance for the first time. Of course, the operation of such a large, busy beach requires strong safety precautions.
Jiang says they have installed two more nets in the swimming area and added two lifeboats. A team of 45 lifeguards will be stationed around the beach.
An electronic monitoring system has also been set up so that if an emergency occurs, rescuers will be alerted immediately.
Last year, more than 1.5 million people visited the beach, including 630,000 from July to September. No major accidents occurred.
In November, it was awarded a 4A national scenic spot.
In 2007, a 3.3-kilometer-long, 5.4-meter-high dam was built to enclose a 1.5-square-kilometer area of seawater to ensure visitors to enjoy a golden beach and cleaner water.
Experts also released young fish, shrimp and other shellfish with coral reefs and shipwreck replicas into the enclosed seawater and a large amount of seaweed, which can absorb heavy-metal pollutants in the water.
After two years, a stable ecological system has formed and water visibility is now 6 meters, meeting the national standard.
