A special school to span East and West

THE first school in Shanghai to offer specialized education to the children of returning overseas Chinese has started accepting registrations for Grade One students.

The Shanghai Star River Overseas Chinese School, located at the intersection of Jindu and Duhui roads in the Minhang District, is due to open in September with up to four classes of 25 students each.

The school will incorporate primary and junior high school education, with an "East meets West" flavor. It is designed to help ease some of the cultural shock many children feel after living overseas for extended periods and then returning to China.

This education melting pot is part of Minhang's strategy for encouraging Chinese professionals working overseas to return to homeland shores and help the development of local business and commerce.

Shanghai High School will operate the new school from grades one to nine.

The curriculum will be bilingual, based on the international coursework used by the Shanghai High School International Division.
