Bringing Classical Culture into the Community
THE Qinhan Lane Antique Pavilion is located in 388 Gumei Road. Its exterior decor is relatively simple, but that unassuming facade masks the exciting, different world one encounters upon entering.
The interior's classical style decor lets history jump out and embrace the public, with its ancient styles of furniture, paintings and calligraphies. The array is very encompassing.
Free lectures and courses are periodically available in the pavilion, spanning calligraphy, classical national studies and ancient instruments, to name but a few. All the activities are related in some way to traditional Chinese folk culture.
"The courses offered in the pavilion are very special," said Li Jinshui, a parent who sends his child to lessons there.
"My son likes the calligraphy course. Not only has his handwriting improved, but nowadays he is filled with stories about famous Chinese calligraphers."
During this summer vacation, Qinhan Lane was besieged by invitations from various communities to stage activities in their neighborhoods. Many were geared to young people on their school break.
Qinhan Lane has already held free lectures on traditional culture in Gumei No. 3, No. 4 and No. 9 neighborhoods, covering several ancient classical books, such as "Rules for Discipline" and "Common Manners." Young people learn small but valuable lessons on manners taught to their ancestors thousands of years ago: "Do not blame your parents even when they make mistakes;" "Dress clean and tidy but not to excess."
Qinhan Lane has also re-issued "Rules for Discipline" and "Common Manners" with an edition that writes pinyin above every character to make it easier for children to read.
More than 4,000 copies of the new edition have also been sent for free distribution to the Nanfang Shopping Mall and to community centers.
Qinhan Lane is planning to open two even bigger pavilions in Minhang. One will be themed on traditional cultural experience; the other will focus on gold and stone antique displays.
