Bus lines now offer WiFi with security safeguards
MORE than 80 buses in Minhang now offer free Wi-Fi. The service is available on route Nos. 163, 174, 177, 986, 978, and on Pujiang Nos. 1-7 buses, according to Shangnan Public Bus No. 1 Co.
More bus routes will install the service by the end of the year. This is the first time that Wi-Fi service is available on buses in Minhang.
The service is provided by network operator 16WiFi and can be tapped by up to 50 devices at a time. The bandwidth allows people to play online games or watch videos.
The operator said the WiFi has multiple encryptions to ensure security.
Users need to download the 16WiFi app and register with their phone numbers to get access to the service. It’s available in the App Store and almost all Android stores.
There has been increasing concern over fake free public Wi-Fi after some hackers used false hotspots to steal user information. Shangnan Public Bus said the app used on its routes will give users a warning whenever a suspected hotspot is found.
