STUDENTS from Shanghai Xinguang School have held a fund-raising drive in Xinzhuang, Qibao and Hongqiao towns to benefit needy families in Minhang. The charity drive ended sooner than planned because of severe cold weather, but it still managed to raise 48,000 yuan (US$7,704.65). It was one of several charity events held on December 29. In Meilong Town, 700 young volunteers from the district raised 13,000 yuan canvassing in 13 communities. The money will go to the children of poor families. Every donor received a small gift as thank-you for contributing.
