Neighborhood committees in the Beiqiao Community organized what they called a Clever Housewives Association, aimed at residents aged between 50 and 60. Most of the women are emigrants from other parts of China. The program is aimed at helping them assimilate into Shanghai life. The association sponsors dances, singing groups, handicraft session and lessons in the Shanghai dialect.
