Fire 鈥榟ero鈥 suffers serious injuries
A Minhang man suffered severe burns this month while trying to alert residents to a fire in a six-story apartment building in the Zhuxin No. 3 neighborhood.
Wang Haibin, 25, who lives with his parents and grandmother, smelled smoke just after midnight.
After evacuating his family, Wang went back into the building to alert other neighbors.
One woman living on the third floor of the building said his actions probably saved her and her husband鈥檚 lives.
鈥淲e probably would have choked to death on smoke if it were not for him,鈥 she said.
Residents evacuated the building. When the Minhang Fire Brigade arrived, they found Wang unconscious from smoke inhalation and burns.
He was rushed to Ruijin Hospital, where he remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Firefighters said the fire was apparently started by two electric bicycles being charged up on the first floor.
