From a residential community to world event, Xia takes it all in her stride

I've already been working here for over 300 days. But one year ago, I could hardly imagine that I would get so close to Expo?"

When Xia Yin says this, you can see the excitement in her eyes. Her youthful appearance belies her title -- assistant supervisor of Zone C, Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

Before June last year, she was working in a residential community in Zhuanqiao Town. Because of her outstanding working performance, she was chosen by the Expo Bureau and temporarily transferred to work there. She did so well that she was honored as one of the "2009 Excellent Staff of Expo Bureau" with the highest score of her department.

After she graduated from college in 2007, Xia decided to work in a residential community. "I like to communicate with people," she said.

During her time in the community, she organized a lot of successful activities. Because of her outstanding performance, when the Expo Bureau needed to transfer some staff from districts and counties, Xia was recommended by Minhang District.

After joining the Expo Bureau, Xia worked in the Zone C department, mainly on the general management of Zone C during the construction period, exhibition preparation and formal opening.

In her work book are recorded various tasks including the coordination conference of the reception for Czech Pavilion, interview of Spanish interpreters, making plans for test runs ? none of them unnecessary.

Xia lives in Xingzhuang, which means three to four hours traveling every day. But that's not a problem for her. She knows that only hard work guarantees success.

Last August, she was given an important task -- preparation of the fourth Expo participants conference. From preparing written materials to arranging hotels and catering, Xia and her colleagues spent an entire month on the task. But she didn't foresee that when the conference began, the number of participants had increased so rapidly that there were not enough chairs in the conference room. Fortunately, after immediate communication with other departments, the embarrassment of a "standing conference" was avoided.

When Xia is asked if she's happy in her work, she replies: "Since everything is not easy to do, I always feel happy after each of my jobs gets done."

"The Zone C is about 1 square kilometer in size, with 24 self-constructed pavilions, 28 rented pavilions and five joint pavilions," Xia says. "It's a very interesting sector, crossing continents of Europe, America and Africa. There are a lot of mysteries and wonderful elements to see."

Although Xia spends many hours on the Expo site, she rarely gets a chance to walk around.

"Only a few days ago I had my first walk around the entire Expo site," she says.

"Working in the Expo site, I've seen many pavilions rise from the ground. You can imagine how the different feelings flooded over me when seeing all the things get done."
