Gaofang now available for TCM residents

MANY Chinese people regularly dose themselves with traditional Chinese medicine throughout the year, and as winter approaches it is time for reinforcing the therapy to build up energy for spring.

Last Sunday, Minhang TCM Hospital introduced the Gaofang Festival and the first batch of gaofang is now available. Gaofang is a condensed tonic of herbs and animal ingredients in a paste that reinforces energy, both yin and yang, as needed.

The Gaofang Festival lasts till January 10. Besides the practitioners in Minhang TCM Hospital, experts from Shanghai TCM University, Shuguang Hospital, Longhua Hospital and Shanghai TCM Hospital also do prescriptions.

During the festival, the hospital launched a special window of gaofang prescriptions for citizens.

The ingredients are supplied by professional medical companies that work with the upper first-class TCM hospitals, so the quality is guaranteed.

The various kinds of gaofang prescribed by the practitioners are all recognized by TCM professional institutes.

The production of gaofang combines the traditional way of soaking and pasting and the modernized technologies that boil the ingredients and accurately control the duration.

The advanced machines are able to correctly condense the tonic of the ingredients and remove the unwanted amount of water.

The last step, wrapping, has also utilized new technology which ensures that the paste remains at a temperature of 70 to 80 degrees Celsius. Such suitable wrapping successfully prevents the uneven concentration of the paste made in traditional ways.

The gaofang equipment at Minhang TCM Hospital is reputed to be among the most advanced in the city.

Normally it takes a week for citizens to get gaofang after ingredients are prescribed. For special requirements, gaofang order services are now available.

In addition, TCM practitioners remind citizens that though gaofang benefits one's health, it can not serve as a substitute for medicine. Gaofang should be kept in a dry place to avoid humidity that may cause deterioration.

It's advised that gaofang should be microwaved regularly in order to remove the water.
