High-tech solar cell production set to start
SHANGDE, a solar energy science and technology developer is set to put China's first silicon thin-film solar cells production line into operation this July at its R&D center in Pujiang High-tech Park.
The center started two years ago and covers 13 hectares. When completed in 2010, it will become the world's biggest silicon thin-film solar cells manufacturing base.
"Silicon thin-film solar cell is the future trend for the solar energy industry, and many people have been trying to take the lead in this new technology in recent years," says Director Chen Shaobing. "So the production line is a very important strategic step for us."
Thin thin-film solar cells, based on non-toxic, abundant and air-stable silicon, will probably dominate the photovoltaic market in the future and thus move bulk silicon from its leading position because of highly effective materials utilization and low energy consumption.
As China's solar energy giant, Shangde is engaged in solar technology research and development, application, manufacture and sales in correlated products, which have been exported to Europe, America, the Middle East, Germany, Spain and Belgium.
Its products range from solar-powered water heat, solar energy illumination lamps to public transportation platforms and solar cell modules.
The company has also established technical collaboration with Academia Sinica Solar Energy Technical Research Institute and set up a long-term cooperation relation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Heliotechnics Research Institute, Zhejiang and Fudan universities.
