Hot times for young mothers
Young mothers living at the Jingshuyuan neighborhood of Pujiang Town have banded together to form a club to expand their social life and relieve some of their daily tedium.
They call themselves the Hot Mother’s Club. Gu Jiaying, an official with the neighborhood’s community service center who founded the group, is the 30-year-old mother of an eight-year-old boy.
“After I had my son, I found that my social life almost ceased to exist,” said Gu. “I realized there were probably other people in the neighborhood who felt the same way.”
Gu said the club is a quick way to make friends and share experiences.
The main target of the club are mothers under the age 35.
In the past year, the club has organized more than 30 events, including free courses on baking, fitness, skin and hair care, and parenting. The community service center invited professionals as instructors for the courses.
The club has its own WeChat group to inform the members about events.
“We have our classroom in a basement of the Pujiang Culture and Sports Development Center,” said Gu. “It took us awhile to find a permanent home for our club.”
Zhang Jianmin, a member of the club, said the group has greatly enriched her life.
“Before the club, I spent all my spare time playing online games,” said Zhang. “Now I have a lot of new friends and I am much happier.”
