Inns get scrutiny on their sanitation

A special inspection of sanitation conditions at hotels and inns was recently conducted by the Minhang Institute of Health Inspections.

The focus was on three budget hotel chains in Xinzhuang Town.

At 99 Inn on Xindong Road, the inspectors examined cleaned rooms and found only minor infractions, such as water stains on glasses and inadequate sanitation of reusable slippers provided to guests.

Hanting Inns and Hotels on Xindong Road got higher points than 99 Inn.

Improvement

Inspectors said conditions at that chain have improved from six months ago, when infractions related to sanitizing room materials were found.

At 7 Days Inn on Qixin Road, health certificates for some staff were found to be out of date.

Many budget hotel chains send their linen out for laundering but don't check whether the work is well done, inspectors said. It is the hotel's responsibility to ensure quality.

There are more than 400 hotels and inns in the Minhang District, including 76 budget hotel chains operating under 11 brand names.

This year, hotels and inns will be included in a quantitative classification management system and inspected one to four times a year.
