Man nabbed for fraud in providing work permits

MINHANG police recently detained a man for providing fraudulent labor contracts for foreigners to use in obtaining work visas and residence permits.

The suspect, surnamed Dai, helped at least six foreigners get one-year residence permits. He charged them between 4,000 yuan (US$615) and 7,000 yuan for the fraudulent documents. The foreigners came from Southeast Asia.

Some of them were unaware of Dai's swindle. Others said they sought Dai's help because they didn't qualify for residence permits.

Dai formerly worked in the field of overseas company registration, which gave him access to business licenses and official seals.

He aroused the suspicion of the staff of the Shanghai's Exit-Entry Administration Bureau by accompanying foreigners to apply for documents.

Minhang police said they are warning foreigners to be careful about residence permit scams and stick to legal channels.
