Projects to shore up the beauty of local riverbanks
The rehabilitation of banks along the Chunshentang River will be completed next month, according to Minhang’s water affairs bureau.
The district has built multiple waterway corridors while cleaning up local rivers in recent years as part of efforts to make its rivers pollution-free within years.
Chunshentang rehabilitation will open more recreational and parkland areas for local residents.
The riverbank corridor rims 5.6 kilometers from Beizhu port to Meilong port.
The water bureau has built seven platforms along the river, each with distinct features, and walking paths enveloped in greenery.
Before redevelopment, the riverbank was muddy and slippery after rain, causing safety hazards for the pedestrians.
Reconstruction involved adding facilities and equipment in keeping with blueprints of other riverbank corridors. The surrounding ecosystem was improved, with additional area designed for recreation, fitness and sports activities.
The corridor was also designed to protect biodiversity and hold soil in place to prevent erosion.
Under the district-wide river rehabilitation program, rehabilitation has already been completed along the Yingtao, Xinjing and Caohejing rivers. The banks of the Dianpu River are the next step in reconstruction.
