Pujiang Town's outmoded farm sector gets extensive upgrade

A cluster of six agricultural projects is considered one of the key moves in turning Pujiang Town in Minhang District from a traditional agricultural area to a modern urban agricultural base.

It includes 19 hectares of breeding area, 14 hectares for research by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 17 hectares for displaying modern agricultural temperature-control facilities, 53 hectares for leisure agriculture, 17 hectares for kiwi fruit production and 67 hectares with high-level facilities.

According to the plan, Jiandong Village and Huimin Village will own three agricultural research centers, two of which of national level. In the near future, the area will be a new "Green Valley."

The breeding base will be managed by the district agricultural committee, whose new products will soon be introduced to city residents. The research area for Jiao Tong University will be overseen by the institution's Agricultural College.

It will include projects from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science, including an incubator base, promotion base and new-tech application base.

A highlight in the "Green Valley" will be a new research center for agricultural technology. It will be established by the Urban Green Project Company of Shanghai Electric Group.

A display pavilion of 10,000 square meters will showcase new applications of solar energy and subterranean heat in modern agriculture. The temperature-control technology center will be a leading edge facility.

Leisure agriculture is another key part of the grand plan, with three events already planned. In the Shanghai Dendrobe Agriculture Creation Zone, high-level biological technology will combine research into new varieties of crops with leisure tourism.

In the east, an agricultural leisure club will be established in an ecological fishing village. In Haisha Ecological Village, visitors will be able to participate in farming by planting and sowing their own crops.

In Pujiang Town, high-quality kiwi fruit will be introduced from Sichuan Province. According to the current plan, Pujiang kiwi fruit are expected to be on Shanghai dining tables within three or four years.
