Scheme cuts energy costs and pollution

AN energy plan being drafted in Jiangchuan area plans to save 40 percent in coal costs by setting up a heat transfer station at Minhang Electricity Plant.

Five senior experts from Minhang District Senior Scientific Professional Association plan to transform 70 boilers with a daily capacity of less than 8 tons of steam into four boilers with daily capacity of 75 tons each.

The scheme will raise thermal-transfer efficiency from the current 50 percent to more than 85 percent, thus saving 40 percent in coal costs.

Some of the 70 boilers are near homes, bringing dust and waste gas to local residents. After the plan is carried out, dust will be reduced by about 20 percent and sulfur dioxide and nitrogen-oxygen compounds will also be compulsorily treated.

The research work should be completed by the end of October.
