Six folk culture display areas opened, many more to come
The first group of six folk collection exhibition halls funded by the Minhang government formally opened to the public at the end of last month.
The six halls include Shimoxuan Art Museum, China-Hutong Art Guildhall, Longtong Cultural Exhibition Hall, Hanlin Tablet Museum, Hanfeng Pavilion and Cangyi Pavilion.
Traditional culture is the theme of all these six halls. Five are personal collection halls, which display various artworks such as ancient stone carvings, Chinese painting and calligraphy, sculptures of Buddha, ancient furniture, tablets, woodcarving and jade.
Collection halls
Cangyi Pavilion is the display hall of the Minhang Collectors' Association, whose displayed items are mostly needlework.
At the beginning of this year, Minhang decided to establish over 20 folk collection halls around the district, all funded by the government.
With the opening of the six halls, the Minhang Cultural & Broadcasting Bureau signed a funding agreement with them at the same time.
According to the agreement, the halls will receive financial subsidy from the government.
The exact amount of subsidy will depend on the operation and management practices of each entity.
However, the halls can only get a part of the subsidy right now. At the end of this year, they will be evaluated by the government on whether they have followed the agreement, opened to public regularly and offered good service. Only after they pass evaluation can they get the full subsidy.
Besides financial support, information on the exhibition will be put onto the official Website of Minhang District and shared with travel agencies. In the future, these halls will become a part of Shanghai tour attractions.
There's still a quota of 16 more folk collection halls to be built this year. The government has already worked with over 20 folk collectors to determine the selections of items to be displayed.
They are expected to cover more themes, including modern art and artworks from foreign countries.
