Teachers innovate educaiton
MINGHANG District schools with poor academic performances are lifting their game by soliciting ideas from teachers on how to improve.
More than 11,000 teachers have participated in online discussions on that topic in the last two years.
Schools that used to be the least popular among parents are now showing academic improvement.
At Wujing Middle School, for example, which is a facility for children of migrant workers, teachers identified poor self-image as one reason for underachieving students. So the school initiated aerobics classes and entered students in aerobics contests.
A few medals gave the children new confidence and their studies improved.
Wang Hao, director of Minhang Education Bureau, innovation in education works.
"We can't just focus on elite schools," he said. "We need to upgrade average schools if we want to be proud of our educational facilities."
