Women happy -- even with marriage

MORE than 80 percent of the women living in Minhang say they're content with their current life and almost two-thirds are satisfied with their marriages, according to a recent survey conducted by the Minhang Women's Federation.
Six hundred women aged from 25 to 62 years from the district's 13 towns, communities and industrial parks took part in the survey. It revealed that local women focus more on improving their quality of life than the migrant women questioned.
Though many expressed contentment with life, more than 40 percent of them admitted they had different concerns, including worrying about the high price of property, employment, and their children's education.
Female migrant workers said difficulties adapting to city life and the prejudice they felt from Shanghai locals put extra pressures on them.
The survey showed that migrant women had a narrower social life and many felt inferior. They said they had few local friends and most of their time was spent in factories and dormitories.
As for sexual life, the migrant group was more satisfied than local women.
