Yuanjiang Water starts to ease the pressure at the tap

THE first phase of the Yuanjiang Water Plant in Maqiao Town has been completed and was put into full operation early this month. It will help ease the water supply shortage for 2 million residents in the area this summer.

The daily water supply in the area has increased from 670,000 cubic meters to the current 900,000 cubic meters. The local water quality has been greatly improved, as well as the supply tensions in Minhang and part of the nearby Songjiang District were released.

The plant is designed with a fully locked steel structure in its pipe construction and is equipped with a powdered activated carbon installation to better filter the head-water.

In order to facilitate the local water supply during the construction, two pipelines were added to the Minhang Economic Development Zone and some areas in Songjiang District.

The construction of the second phase is now in full swing.

The project adopts the techniques of ozonation and activated carbon treatment. It is scheduled to be put into operation next March.

The Yuanjiang Water Plant is funded by the Minhang Water Co Ltd with an investment of 612 million yuan (US$90 million). It is set to supply at least 500,000 cubic meters of water each day when completed.
