5 female photographers focus on modern life
FIVE female photographers from Shanghai are staging an exhibition at Putuo Art Gallery on the theme "Prologue and Rhythm."
The photographers express their ideas on modern urban life, each with a different topic, in the show that runs until May 7.
Yang Wenjie's "A Room of Her Own" shows how modern women strive to create an ideal life through their own efforts and hard work, as well as considering the obstacles they face.
Meanwhile, Feng Jiayi presents her attitude towards travel in her work - encouraging young women to go out and see the world from their own perspective. In this way they may discover a better self and bring back happiness, she believes.
Yu An'an calls her contribution "Quality" and seeks to illustrate that in the information age, people are getting more exposed.
"Overdue and Superannuated" by Ding Xiaowen aims to express the memories of some lost excerpts in social development. The past glory dies with time, and the ending is always cloudy, explains the photographer.
And Shen Yi's "Mystery" looks at how humans have impinged on nature in every corner of the world and considers.
The five photographers have distinct careers with different focuses, whose work has featured in exhibitions overseas.
The exhibition takes its audience on a search for significance; this can be honesty, kindness, anger or simply a sigh, say organizers.
Date: Through May 7
Tickets: Free
Venue: Putuo Art Gallery (also a branch of Liu Haisu Art Museum)
Address: 1869 Tongchuan Rd
