Video works from Kiev biennale on exhibit
The Best of Times, the Worst of Times Revisited” is an exhibition featuring selected video works from the first Kiev biennale.
A special joint project by MOMENTUM Berlin and Chronus Art Center, the video exhibition reflects the artists’ Utopian dreams about freedom, equality and happiness and at the same time the cruelty of reality: terrorism, injustice and wars.
The exhibition features selected recent video works from the first Kiev biennale by Gulsun Karamustafa, John Bock, Lutz Becker, Map Office, Miao Xiaochun, Tracey Moffatt and Yang Fudong.
The title is taken from Charles Dickens’ famous novel “A Tale of Two Cities.” The exhibition jumps forward to the present to consider how contemporary art and aesthetics use the past to express the future.
Chinese artist Miao, whose work “Restart” is currently shown at this exhibition, is representing China in the 55th Venice Biennale. Map Office, a multidisciplinary platform devised by Laurent Gutierrez from Morocco and Valerie Portefaix from France, presents their work, “Oven of Straw,” exploring the role of wheat as a system of exchange.
The artists are based in Hong Kong and use various means of expression include drawing, photography, video, installations, performance and texts.
