Water town to house a lab to control water pollution
The Yangtze River Delta Ecology and Greenery Integration Demonstration Zone’s Water Town Living Room will house a major national water pollution control and green resource recycling laboratory.
The lab’s goal is to improve regional teamwork for new technologies and industries, strengthen partnerships between researchers and local businesses, and support shared research and advancements in environmental protection and energy saving.
The site of the lab boasts convenient transportation, which is adjacent to National Highway G318 to the east and just a 5-minute drive from the Water Town Living Room Station of the Demonstration Zone Line.
A “blue loop” runs through the base, integrating land and water transport and making it a natural “test field” for water environment governance.
The lab will focus on systematic research in areas such as green and low-carbon development, resource recycling and environmental health. Its operation will be supported by a “One Super Brain plus Six Centers” layout.
The “super brain” refers to the digital and intelligent water environment super brain.
It will pioneer a multi-factor precision control simulator and build a world-leading water environment perception and governance simulator.
The six research centers focus on water pollution prevention, water safety, and low-carbon and zero-waste cities, among others.
Among them, the Basin Water Pollution Prevention and Control Research Center focuses on developing new theories, technologies, materials, and equipment for controlling water pollution in basins and establishing systems to improve water environment quality and restore aquatic ecosystems.
The Yangtze River Delta Zero-Waste City and Resource Recycling Research Center will create new research paradigms for technical equipment systems and innovation frameworks to lead China’s application research and industrial transformation in zero-waste cities and resource recycling.
The Drinking Water Safety and Quality Improvement Research Center will tackle key technologies and core equipment for identifying and monitoring water quality risks.
