Zhujiajiao renovation yields good results

As Zhujiajiao Ancient Town in Qingpu District moves toward becoming a national 5A-level (the top grade) scenic spot, the core landscape enhancement project of the scenic area has achieved remarkable results.

More than 140 landscape sites within the ancient town have undergone meticulous renovation so far.

From the waterfront areas to the front yards of shops, the renewal work that integrates the ancient town’s traditional charm, the improvement of tourists’ experience and the optimization of functions has been mostly completed.

Today, the renovated entrance of the ancient town’s scenic area takes on a new look. Bamboos are lined up along the path, and under the bamboo shadows, plants and stone scenery form an exquisite view.

The entrance pavilion has been reconstructed to present a traditional Chinese style with dark tiles and upturned eaves, and the Chinese-style window frames further create an elegant “one window, one scene” effect.

The round archway is decorated with plants, becoming a landscape with flowing greenery.

The bamboo-woven screens are arranged in a dense and sparse manner, which not only increase the spatial layering between the shop area and the residential area but also reserves “leisure space” for residents.

“Pocket parks” where tourists can take rest and relax have been created, adding a warm atmosphere to the ancient town.

The person in charge of the project’s design team said as the scenic area is located in the core of Zhujiajiao, the team has paid special attention to the interactive relationship between the spatial layout inside and outside the scenic area, and put forward the design concept of “dialogue with the city.”

The team has created many highlights on both banks of the Fangsheng Bridge.

Among them, a landscape near a public toilet has now become a popular check-in spot for tourists to enjoy the panoramic view of the bridge and experience the integration of people and scenery.
