Floral extravaganza gets underway
AUTUMN is the season of chrysanthemums, a flower symbolizing purity, friendship, nobility and longevity in China.
A chrysanthemum festival is in full swing now through November 22 at the Songjiang Wuzhe Modern Agricultural Park. If you are a shutterbug, don't miss this opportunity!
On show are almost 1,000 types of chrysanthemums — a million shrubs turning the park into an 80,000-square-meter sea of color.
Among the blooms are rare varieties, including a blue chrysanthemum and one that contains green, yellow, pink, red and blue in one flower.
The park's Honghua Avenue is special treat to walk along. It's flanked on both sides by chrysanthemums.
There are also displays of chrysanthemums in pots, configured into the shapes of elephants, peacocks, rhinos, tigers and pandas.
Modern agricultural techniques now prolong the bloom season up to an extra month.
