Forestland undergoes an upgrade

RICH in fresh air, lush forests and grand views of the upper reaches of the Huangpu River, Songnan Forest Park will undergo major work later this year.

When completed, the park is expected to become a popular new getaway for urban dwellers.

The first phase of the project, located in Chedun Town, covers an area of 5.1 square kilometers, starting from the Dazhangjing River in the west and connecting with the Huangpu in the south.

A 10-kilometer riverside parkway will be turned into a natural forest of camphor and dawn redwood trees, along with vineyards and peach orchards.

It will take in rice paddies, crisscrossing canals, fishponds and shrimp pools in the nearby villages

In addition, the park will highlight historic sites, such as the old Zhongdu Bridge, Desheng Harbor and the Mishi Ferry of ancient China.

The development of the park involves work with Germany architects and US landscapers.
