Le Cake a yummy addition to the net
Songjiang-based Le Cake has become the biggest online cake shop in China in just four years.
Serving 13 major cities, including Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, it has attracted 120 million customers.
Decorated cakes have become a must-have on many occasions, such as birthday parties and weddings.
Online bakeries and tailor-made cakes are the newest trend in the market.
Zhang Lan established Le Cake in April 2011, hoping to combine a traditional food business with the Internet and creating a new channel for marketing and sales.
The online format is perfect, he said, to reach customers and tap millions of sales.
Le Cake has set up a central kitchen in Songjiang.
Although the cost of delivering the cakes was high in the beginning, Zhang insisted that his business handle all logistics instead of farming it out to other companies.
Such attentive service has won good reviews from customers.
Le Cake said it pays great attention to food safety. The cakes must be delivered within eight hours after they鈥檙e made to ensure freshness.
To improve flavors and designs, Le Cake has invited Christian Le Squer, chef of the three-star Michelin restaurant Ledoyen, as a product development consultant.
