Magic rooster a boost for Xinbang鈥檚 creative force

鈥淢agic Rooster,鈥 a children鈥檚 musical created and performed by Songjiang artists, premiered at Xinbang Community Cultural Center on August 15.
Xinbang is hailed as a 鈥渢heater town鈥 and is home to renowned playwright Lu Jun. It has also witnessed both professional and amateur dramatists鈥 creative endeavors in writing a number of good works and has witnessed the birth of a generation of performing artists including Niu Qiuzhen and Lu Haiyun.
The debut of 鈥淢agic Rooster鈥 marks an extension of the town鈥檚 force in theatrical creation and performance. Yu Yue鈥檈 was the writer and members from Songjiang Qijia Youth Drama Club performed.
The musical is based on a reversal of common sense that it鈥檚 impossible for a rooster to lay eggs. Yu came up with an enticing plot: Grandma Zhang raised a proud rooster and a good-natured hen, and every day the rooster would crow and the hen would lay eggs. With summer approaching, she decided to cook the rooster for her grandson. But, to everyone鈥檚 amazement, the rooster began to lay eggs.
The play has been published in Play, a monthly magazine in China that publishes scripts.
鈥淪ince China鈥檚 opening-up to the outside world in 1978, both its modernity and people鈥檚 livelihoods have improved dramatically. But a society鈥檚 rapid development does cause some side effects and bad behavior at a young age is one of the problems. We hope the musical can awaken people鈥檚 longing for kind and good things,鈥 said Yu.
