New cinemas envelop audiences with sight and sound
THE Shanghai Film Park, a re-creation of 1930s Shanghai, has been upgraded with the installation of three five-dimensional, 360-degree cinemas and a new park emulating the Old Bund.
The two new attractions are now open to the public. Each of the new cinemas is a sphere that surrounds audiences, immersing them in sights and sounds when the 360-degree screens are airing films in stereo.
Sensory perceptions are enhanced by the emissions of scents and light water sprays at key junctures of the films. The chairs also move. Currently three films are being aired: “Ocean World,” “Haunted House” and “Malan Flower.”
In future, the playbill will be expanded to eight films.
The new Park of the Bund covers 8,700 square meters, flavored with the architecture of Old Shanghai and themed with bronze sculptures.
Funded and built by the Shanghai Film (Group) Co, the Shanghai Film Park functions as a location for movie and television productions.
It’s also a popular sightseeing spot.
The park has sets re-creating 1930s Nanjing Road, shikumen alleyways of Shanghai, Suzhou Creek neighborhoods, the Moller Villa, the Peace Plaza, the Zhejiang Road Steel Bridge and other city landmarks of the era.
Entertainment facilities include a tramcar tour and an exhibition of costumes and stage props.
