A good kids' library cause is on the menu
VUE Restaurant and Shanghai Daily today announced the continuation of their joint charity program, the "Vue Restaurant Shanghai Daily Charity Month," during March and April.
Through April 30, Vue Restaurant is offering a selection of new charity set menus in honor of the charity program. The award-wining restaurant at Hyatt on the Bund will continue to donate 10 percent of its revenue from every order of the specially created charity set menus to the Children's Library Project whose main objective is to set up libraries in schools and orphanages in remote villages in China. Together with Hyatt on the Bund, Shanghai Daily plays an important role in encouraging readers to support the program through its publications.
"We had a good year in 2010, not only pertaining to outstanding performance in hotel business, but also in terms of community service achievement. In 2007, we worked with The Miele Guide and the United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP). During the period of the World Expo Shanghai 2010, Hyatt on the Bund worked with many partners and we managed to contribute around 130,000 yuan (US$19,829) toward good causes. Shanghai Daily, no doubt, is one of the most supportive and reputable partners that we have," says Gottfried Bogensperger, general manager of Hyatt on the Bund.
In 2009 and 2010, Hyatt on the Bund contributed more than 160,000 yuan to The Library Project.
"We believe that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty that exists in developing areas within China. We believe that it is Hyatt's role in the community to be involved in this CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program," says Bogensperger.
Shanghai Daily is a leading English-language newspaper published seven days a week in the Chinese mainland. It provides valuable information for expatriates living in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta via its daily newspaper, website and mobile newspaper. "We are building a bridge of communication between Shanghai, China and the rest of the world. A field tour was organized by Hyatt on the Bund last year to see, feel and experience how grateful the children were. It was a very fulfilling experience for those who joined the field trip. For this reason we would like to continue the cooperation with Hyatt on the Bund," said Christine Zhu, deputy editor-in-chief of Shanghai Daily.
In June, Hyatt on the Bund will once again organize a field trip to build up the libraries in Anhui Province.
The team will include hotel employees, media representatives and volunteers. Corporations and members of the public can get involved and experience social responsibility by participating in the Shanghai Daily & Vue Restaurant Charity Month at Hyatt on the Bund.
Located on the 30th floor of Hyatt on the Bund's West Tower, Vue Restaurant was conceived in the style of a bachelor's penthouse and created by acclaimed Japanese interior design firm Super Potato. As its name suggests, diners can enjoy a 270-degree view over the Huangpu River, with the historical Bund on the right contrasting with modern skyscraper-lined Pudong on the left. Every aspect of its space was designed to optimize the panorama of the spectacular vista. Vue has been recognized as one of the best restaurants in the city by many gourmets and publications.
