Autumn fare: Yunnan noodles or Italian pizza
NOT only does Le Royal Meridien Shanghai offer five-star dining with classic dishes, but it also offers more casual fare, such as famous Yunnan noodles and Neopolitan pizza.
In the hotel's Ai Mei Chinese Restaurant, guests can enjoy authentic Yunnan rice noodles prepared at their table by one of the chefs on the team of executive chef Peter Cheung.
And at Favola Italian Restaurant, authentic Neopolitan pizza, with buffalo milk mozzarella, is on offer.
"We'd like to challenge our guests' taste with best ingredients, and we hope to offer some East-meets-West combinations, so we not only launched Yunnan noodles but also Neopolitan pizza here together," says Silvio Autuori, executive assistant manager of food and beverage.
Yunnan noodles from southern China's Yunnan Province are famously rich in taste and very nutritious. Guests can choose among four flavors - seafood, chicken, beef and mushroom. Around 20 side dishes include peanuts, celery, caraway and various condiments.
Noodles cost 128 yuan (US$19) for four people.
And from the West comes delicious Neopolitan pizza, prepared with San Marzano tomatoes and buffalo milk mozzarella.
Favola chef Tino Giuseppe says the pizza is strictly prepared according to the requirements of the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana.
Dough consists of wheat flour, natural neopolitan yeast, salt and water; it has relatively high protein content. It must be kneaded by hand or with a low-speed mixer. He says pizza is baked for 60-90 seconds in a 485-degree-Centigrade stone oven with an oak wood fire.
Favola has a warm, stylish and intimate atmosphere. It has a wide range of offerings including grilled meat, various pizzas, salads and desserts.
Through December 31, Favola offers weekend brunch (noon to 2:30pm) for 168 yuan per person; it's an extra 30 yuan for free flow local beer or a glass of wine.
Address: 789 Nanjing Rd E.
