Award-winning Chinese comedy hits cinemas

“Summer Detective,” a black comedy movie directed by Xu Lei, will hit cinemas across China on November 29, according to insiders after a recent special screening at Tianshan Cinema. The film won the Best Screenplay award at the 13th FIRST International Film Festival in July.

Set in a small village, the film follows two villagers who team up to investigate the troublemaker of a traffic accident. But on their way to uncover the truth, they encounter a series of real-life problems.

Rao Xiaozhi, who directed the highly-acclaimed drama film “A Cool Fish” in 2018, is the producer.

Rao confessed he was lucky to be engaged in the production of such an excellent movie.

All of the characters in the film are played by non-professional actors. They vividly depict the “heroes” of ordinary life. Director Xu’s parents also star in the movie.

“There is no absolute answer to life,” said director Xu.

“When something bad happens, people should learn to move on with courage, strength and optimism.

“Our film hopes to convey that kind of power and confidence to the audience.”

The film also received high praise from Xiao Yang, a well-known filmmaker.

Xiao said he was touched by the film’s exploration of beauty in life.

Before the film’s national release, it will also hold special screenings in the cities of Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Beijing and Chengdu later this month.
