Bike rent depots around island

Visitors will be able to rent bicycles to tour Chongming Island in April in a trial project providing 800 bikes at seven locations.
Travelers can rent a bicycle at Dongping National Forest Park, where an orchid festival will be held through the end of May.
The bike rental is provided by Shanghai Chongming One-meter Cycling Service Co Ltd and the Chongming County Tourism Bureau.
Starting on April 1, visitors can rent bicycles at four service stations, including Yingzhou Park, Dongping National Forest Park, Xisha Wetlands and Qianwei Village.
Around 3 million yuan (US$439,360) has been invested in the first phase of the rental service project. The aim is to set up 18 bike rental stations.
Renting an ordinary bicycle will cost 10 yuan per hour; the maximum daily charge is 50 yuan. Renting a mountain bike will cost 15 yuan per hour; the maximum daily charge is 75 yuan.
Shi Yong, general manager of Chongming One-meter Cycling, says the goal is to set up a network across the island in cooperation with scenic spots, travel agents and hotels.
Shi says the name "one-meter" does not indicate the length of the bicycle.
"It actually means how close cycling connects us to each other, to nature, happiness and health. To cycle is to pursue harmony between humans and nature," he says.
