Bistro flexes mussels with Belgian fare

BELGIAN bistro Chambar successfully combines a great location, cozy environment, authentic cuisine and well-chosen beers from Belgium.

The restaurant is located in a well-preserved old building on Xing'an Road in the Xintiandi area with three floors offering dining and entertainment.

On the fourth floor is a relaxation area complete with pool table, 40-inch television and cigar humidor, with a balcony from which you can gaze at the nocturnal activity below through gently rustling leaves.

Placing importance on traditional Belgian cuisine, Chambar's signature offering is its mussels, served in six different ways which include prepared in white wine or Hoegaarden beer, with garlic and fresh cream, coriander or curry (a small pot cost 98 yuan/US$14.85, large is 148 yuan).

Some of the other dishes certainly have power to wow, including the veal rack and the lamb.

And a Belgian meal wouldn't be complete without one of the country's many delightful beers. Chambar offers 18 different types from well-known brews such as Stella Artois and Hoegaarden to more specialist options. 11:30am-11pm
