Bringing back sweet memories of Russia

RUSSIA'S Redflag Song and Dance Troupe will present revolutionary songs, folk tunes, pop numbers and Chinese songs to celebrate China's national day and Sino-Russian friendship.

Performances will be held on September 30 and October 1 at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. The title of the show, "Remembering the Birch Forest," refers to Russia's famous birch forests and bringing back memories of Russia for middle-aged and elderly Chinese.

The program will include 20 Russian songs and dances, including "Katyusha," "Moscow Nights" and "Red Berry Blossom," as well as Chinese songs "My Chinese Heart" and "Song of Guerrilla Forces."

It includes chorus, band, soloists and dance teams. Its military-style songs and dances are very famous. Russian singers in the troupe have learned some Chinese to perform Chinese songs, including "A Song to Tough Guys" and "Wishing You Safe and Well."

The closing song will be "Today Is Your Birthday, China."
