Chinese ink-painting exhibition features pandemic fight

An exhibition tour of traditional Chinese ink paintings visits the city today and will be on show till December 31.

Many of the exhibit鈥檚 creations, featuring more than 20 artists from the Yangtze River Delta region, reflect China鈥檚 battle against COVID-19 and the people鈥檚 struggle during the pandemic.

The tour has already been showcased at Wuhu Art Gallery in Anhui Province, Jiangsu鈥檚 Nantong Cultural Center, Nantong University鈥檚 School of Arts and Suzhou鈥檚 Art and Design Technology Institute, and Shanghai is the tour鈥檚 latest destination.

Under the banner 鈥淭he Setting Sun is Infinite,鈥 the tour is part of a program under a cooperation mechanism of the Yangtze River Delta, which was launched in Shanghai in October 2018. It鈥檚 guided by the Changning District Culture and Tourism Administration and organized by the Ink Painting in Shanghai, a local workshop providing exhibition information and services on art.

In one painting 鈥淒aily Life: Living in Harmony and Overcoming all Difficulties鈥 created by artist Chen Qi, a father and his daughter can be seen surrounded by stuffed toys, both wearing a mask and goggles. A dove is behind them, bringing peace to the country.

Chen told Shanghai Daily that his young daughter loves all the fineness in the world and everything is vivid and beautiful in her eyes.

鈥淚 also join her adventure to find the secret beauty of life and experience the fantastic world she sees,鈥 Chen said.

鈥淗owever, this year鈥檚 coronavirus pandemic disrupted our life and changed people鈥檚 lifestyles. Combating the disease in all walks of life attended to this battle. On the way of fighting, we worked together, made great efforts and sacrifices, which have brought us numerous touching moments and encouragement.

鈥淢y daughter knew the virus was outside but we were being protected by medics. She also knew we had to take our own measures to prevent the epidemic spreading.鈥

Another artist, Cui Tong, painted two people with a mask on their face in his work 鈥淒istance鈥 to express social distancing.

The artists hope people can step out of the virus鈥 shade and feel more about the warmth and persistence of humanity through their work.
