Cirque du Soleil brings Saltimbanco to city
CANADA'S Cirque du Soleil will return to Shanghai this September, this time with "Saltimbanco."
Four years ago, the internationally acclaimed troupe made a successful debut in Shanghai with the show "Quidam."
"Saltimbanco" is Cirque du Soleil's longest-running touring show. They have performed it since 1992 in front of more than 12 million people, according to Wei Ming, general manager of Beijing Gehua Live Nation Entertainment & Sports Co Ltd, organizer of the show.
A thrilling celebration of awe-inspiring artistry and agility, the show boasts an international cast of more than 50 performers and musicians from over 20 different countries, according to Wei.
Shanghai will be the only stop in China for the show because the Canada-based troupe has earned a high reputation in the city after "Quidam," Wei says.
"Tickets were sold out for all 70 shows," he says.
Following that success, Cirque du Soleil was invited to provide special shows last year at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai at the Canada Pavilion.
Based in Québec, Cirque du Soleil evolved from a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984. It is now a major troupe providing high-quality artistic entertainment, having delighted more than 100 million spectators in more than 300 cities.
