Coming-of-age for sensitive Spider-Man

SPIDER-MAN is hugely popular in China where the first three installments were very successful.

Fans have waited five years for "The Amazing Spider-Man" and they're likely to be pleased with this coming-of-age flick with a good storyline and plenty of spectacle.

The makeup of the team behind the new installment demonstrates that the producer wants to make this film totally different from its predecessors and give it a brand-new look.

Director Marc Webb is known for his romantic comedy "500 Days of Summer" and he has turned his superhero into a more emotionally literate Spider-Man.

This Spider-Man, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), is the orphan of troubled scientist Richard Parker (Campbell Scott) who was working on inter-species DNA splicing, before he was killed, along with Peter's mother, in a mysterious car accident.

His work is now being carried on by his colleague Dr Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), a man with one arm, who is trying to regrow limbs using lizard's' genes. Peter goes into Dr Connors' lab and sneaks into a top-secret room where experiments are being carried out on spiders.

After Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically modified spider, his spider talents, his love and his troubles begin. Peter is hopelessly in love with classmate Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).

Peter is being looked after by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May but after his uncle's death at the hands of a thief, Peter resolves to undertake a mission that was impossible for police investigators.

When Dr Connor is transformed into a giant and deadly lizard, Peter is forced to decide that he must protect the people he loves and the city where he lives.
