Documentary series about Xinjiang to air
“i’M Going to Xinjiang,” a documentary series about different generations of people’s affinity with the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will air on China Central Television’s Channel 9 and major video-sharing websites next week.
Directed by Uygur photographer Kurbanjan Samat, the series is a portrait of 24 people who pursued their dreams in the vast land of China’s remote northwest.
Among the 24 people are famous writer Wang Meng, basketball coach Li Qiuping and Shanghai doctor Peng Xiaochun who was sent to Xinjiang to support the medical services there.
The nine-episode series also documents the development of Xinjiang from the perspective of ordinary people, such as a teacher, an entrepreneur, a hairstylist and a sand-control expert.
Samat’s 2016 documentary “I Am From Xinjiang on the Silk Road” was a big success. The first season of the franchise visited big cities around the country and pointed a lens at the lives and dreams of 18 people from Xinjiang.
