Documentary tackles family hardships from cancer
A documentary film “See You Again,” which records human efforts in fighting cancer, will air on Tencent Video and Shanghai Media Group’s Docu TV channel at 9pm on Friday.
Taking lens on the lives and emotions of cancer patients seeking treatments at the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, the film highlights the best in humanity and the power of love.
In addition to the latest medical progress, “See You Again” also provides insight into challenges facing families as their fight against cancer is a time and money-consuming process.
It hopes to arouse public awareness of the need for a more complete insurance system to relieve patients of the economic burdens of their treatment.
The film is a production of the crew behind “Life Matters,” a 2016 and 2019 documentary series about the meaning of life and relationships in the health care industry.
According to statistics from the National Cancer Center, the five-year relative survival rate of cancer in China has been increased to 40.5 percent, up by about 10 percentage points in recent years.
Director Qin Bo, who was also involved in the 2019 production of “Life Matters,” said that he has been deeply impressed by the advances in medical technology and people’s understanding of cancer.
“Chinese people usually express their emotions in an implicit and reserved way,” said Qin. “But the special scene of hospital can prompt them to release their intense feelings. We look forward to a more complete insurance system for the cancer patients.”
