Electronic dance duo Pet Shop Boys to stage 1st mainland show
ENGLISH electronic dance music duo the Pet Shop Boys will perform on the Chinese mainland for the first time this summer, staging a concert at the Shanghai Grand Stage on August 20.
The second and final performance will be on August 22 in Beijing.
Tickets will soon go on sale.
The Pet Shop Boys were among the first Western electronic music artists known to Chinese music fans. The tour repertoire will include old favorites with selections from the upcoming album "Electric."
"'Electric' is very much set on the dance floor. Our latest album often evolves as a response to our previous album. Whereas 'Elysium' had a reflective mood, 'Electric' is pretty banging," the duo has said.
The new album, to be released July 15, is the duo's eight album. It features eight new Pet Shop Boys' songs and a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "The Last to Die."
The Pet Shop Boys kicked off their Electric World Tour with a show in Mexico in March, moving on to Chile.
The duo stages at the Summer Sonic Music Festival in Tokyo before landing in Shanghai.
Meeting their Chinese fans for the first time, the duo will create an "electric dance field" with impressive visual effects.
Formed in early 1980s, the duo are Neil Tennant on vocals, keyboards and guitar and Chris Lowe on keyboard. They have sold 50 million records worldwide, won three Brit Awards and have been nominated for six Grammy Awards. Global hits include "West End Girls," "Go West," "Always on my Mind" and "Heart."
Pet Shop Boys maintain consistent public personalities - in interviews Tennant appears cerebral, articulate and loquacious; Lowe, now almost always seen in his trademark hat and sunglasses, appears terse, flippant and casual.
Date: August 20, 8pm
Venue: Shanghai Grand Stage, 1111 Caoxi Rd N.
Tickets: 480-1,280 yuan
Tel: 400-620-6006, 6426-5678
