Exploring the impact of illusions and hallucinations
“CONSTRUCTION of Reality,” a solo exhibition of Argentine artist Leandro Erlich at the HOW Art Museum, brings together over 30 artworks covering large interactive installations, video graphics and photography practices.
By transforming the architectural spaces through jarring reflections and fascinating labyrinths, the artist invites the viewers to question the normal perception of everyday experience.
“Hanging on Time,” the most recent version of the artist’s “Reflective Optical Illusion Building” series, is a new interactive installation in resonance with the landmark of the city — the newly opened Shanghai History Museum.
Other works include “The Staircase,” “The Classroom,” “Hair Salon” and “Lost Garden,” which as a group make up the magical world constructed by the artist.
As an architect, Erlich is good at using mirror surfaces, projection and architectural structures to construct the reality, leading viewers into a “real” world where they question the relationships between body and space, individual and society.
