Farmer has a burning passion for his art
Cao Guangyao is a 45-year-old farmer in Horgos, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. He is also well-known locally for his gourd artwork using pyrography — burning designs onto the surface.
As a painter, Cao became interested in pyrography eight years ago from TV shows and has been creating his own works ever since. Although he has no professional training, Cao keeps working on his art with love and passion when farming is quiet. He has become a skilled and renowned pyrographist and receives many visitors to see his work and order customized pieces.
“I enjoy pyrography,” he says. “My works reflect my stories and my longing for a bright future.”
