Feel of natural fabrics naturally dyed

AN exhibition of natural and naturally dyed fabrics, fashions and furnishings is underway at the Shanghai Korean Cultural Center and runs through Sunday.

The solo exhibition by Dr Joan Sunghee Kim includes garments, accessories, bedding and household decor. All are made of cotton and flax and colored by dye extracted from plants, animals and minerals.

"Slow Fashion and Life" is the title of the exhibition, which also features traditional Korean textiles.

"We are losing something important during the course of making more money and there are demands on quantity and faster speed," Kim says.

"This exhibition is not merely about textiles, dyeing and fashion, it's about the concept of health, wearing natural materials without additives as seasons change."

Kim from South Korea is a natural dyeing specialist, textile consultant and founder of the fashion brand Dyetree.

On Thursday at 3pm, Kim will make a presentation for primary school students and the public.
