Festival offers something for everyone

THE Jinshan Tourism Festival begins this weekend and a variety of activities are on tap.

Fancy and fun floats will parade along Qianjing Avenue on Sunday. Each float will feature Jinshan themes such as farmers’ paintings or cartoon images of the district’s agricultural products.

A traditional Chinese group wedding ceremony will take place the same day in Fengjing Ancient Town. This year 20 couples from Taiwan will wear old-fashioned Chinese gowns and suits for the 11th annual group wedding. A moon party will take place on September 27 to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Folks can sit around on the grass by the river, read poems and stuff themselves full of mooncakes in the moonlight.

A shopping festival is also taking place until October 11 at various malls, plazas and restaurants in the district. Discounts are offered at participating venues.

Luxiang Town is the place to be during the autumn grape harvest. Head on over, roll up those sleeves and start picking.

Visitors can also learn how to make grape jam or brew red wine in the vineyard. Visitors can make their own mooncakes or have a barbecued meal at one of the casual restaurants run by farmers.
