Fresh Polish bands bring an edgy vibe
Most Chinese people know very little about Poland, its culture and music. Even the name Chopin doesn't conjure vivid aural impressions of romantic waltzes and lively mazurkas.
The Poland Pavilion at the World Expo is trying to change that by creating a vibrant space, showing animated films and playing modern music. (Chopin will be performed on National Pavilion Day.)
The fare these days includes live Polish bands and electronic music to communicate with Chinese young people.
They will cheer up the crowds in Shanghai on Saturday night at Zhijiang Dream Factory in a Polish "Beats Attack" night.
The program includes electronic music duo Skinny Patrini, the trio KAMP!, DJ Mike Polarny, DJ Hory, Jacek Sienkiewicz, SLG and special guest DJ Razor, a Polish DJ based in Shanghai.
Skinny Patrini, an enormously productive duo, is comprised of Michael "Skinny" Skorka and Anna Patrini. Anna does vocals and the visual aspect while Skinny is in charge of the beats, backing vocals and production.
They are known for dynamic live fusion of music composition and psychedelic moving visuals.
"We have heard how beautiful, emotional and outstandingly joyful Chinese people are, so we are certain our show will be unforgettable in many ways," the duo said in a statement.
"We are looking forward to sharing our music and energy. We hope we enjoy ourselves as much as the audience will."
KAMP!, a fresh band started two years ago, combines new wave sounds of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
The DJs for the night are among the most energetic of the Poland club culture.
Lukasz Seliga and Mike Polarny have both performed in Shanghai and are pleased to return. They say they're amazed at how well Shanghai audiences accept all kinds of music and experiments.
