DURING the freezing days of winter, coats are a woman's best friend. You are going to be wearing them every day from now until most likely late February. And they don't have to be heavy, dark and dull. In fact, this autumn/winter has proved itself to be the most coat-centric season in a long, long while. The runways were awash with sleek camel coats, fashionable capes, shearling aviator jackets and glamorous fur pieces.
With so many new styles to choose from, we have chosen four major winter coat trends. There are also some mix-and-match tips for each style so that you don't have to sacrifice fashion for function.
If you have a budget to spree on clothes this season, make sure you spend it on a classic designer camel overcoat. A quality coat made of fine wool/cashmere lasts forever.
You can find them on the racks of high fashion houses such as Gucci, Chloe and Max Mara. They are available in various silhouettes, from tailored fit to oversized masculine shapes; and tones as well, from toffee and nutmeg to caramel and cognac.
However, make sure you choose a shade that flatters your skin tone. It can be a disaster if you choose the wrong one, especially for Asian women. It will make you look undernourished.
Wear some big, exaggerated jewelry pieces that go well with camel coats. Putting on some heavy makeup will help, too. Last but not least, cinch a camel coat with a slim brownish belt for some extra glamor.

To balance out the look, remember to keep a lean silhouette underneath, be it a pair of skinny jeans or a body-hugging dress. You may also need a pair of long gloves or arm warmers.
