Himalayas Center for shopping, fun, culture
A stunning new multi-function landmark in the heart of the Pudong New Area is now in soft opening and will officially open by the end of the year.
The Himalayas Center by the Zendai Group is opposite the Shanghai New International Expo Center and is expected to become the cityís latest mecca for shopping, leisure and cultural exchanges.
The entire project is designed by Japanese master architect Arata Isozaki as an urban garden and oasis. The interior is designed by KCA International, which designed the worldís only seven-star hotel Burj Al Arab in Dubai.
The 2-billion-yuan (US$295 million) center features a luxury hotel, a grand art gallery, a theater with a multi-functional auditorium seating 1,600, a creative museum zone, an office complex and shopping mall.
The Himalayas Gallery and the Daguan Theater cover 20,000 square meters, and is expected to become Asiaís biggest private art center.
The lower part of the project, as high as six stories, is shaped like giant trees rising from the ground. On the roof is a 5,300-square-meter garden with wandering lanes and shade trees, providing a tranquil space.
Metro Line 7 can be accessed directly from the lower level of the center. The high-speed Maglev train, for seven-minute transfers to and from Pudong International Airport, is 10 minutes away.
