Illustrations revive childhood fairy tales

ABOUT 300 children’s book illustrations from 25 winners of the Hans Christian Andersen Awards between 1966 and 2014 are on display at the art space in Jing’an Sculpture Park.
Since its opening last month, the Hans Christian Anderson Awards 50th Anniversary Exhibition has attracted many young readers as well as their parents looking for their favorite characters in the books that were once so dear in their childhood.
The three-month exhibition honors the aesthetic and literary qualities of the writing and illustrating of those award winners, whose books have not only fostered the children’s curiosity, but also stretched their imagination and creativity. Of all the illustrations, 210 pieces are originals on show for the first time in Shanghai.
The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are presented every two years by the International Board on Books for Young People to an author and an illustrator whose complete works have made an important and lasting contribution to children’s literature.
The writing award was inaugurated in 1956, with the illustration award in 1966. The award is often called the “Nobel Prize for children’s literature.”

Admission: 98 yuan per person, 178 yuan for two adults and 258 yuan for a family of three (free admission for children under 1.2 meters)
